The Rovira i Virgili University (URV) is one of the five institutions (and the only university in Catalonia) recognized as Evaluation Agencies of the Instituto Cervantes. The Instituto Cervantes is an official public institution of the Spanish government. One of its aims is "to promote the education, the study and the use of Spanish universally as a second language" through its Spanish Language Evaluation Service (SELE).
Under an agreement with the Instituto, the URV is responsible for producing Quality Assessments of Spanish-language teaching centers to evaluate their suitability to become Accredited Centers of the Instituto Cervantes or to have their accreditation extended.
Moreover, as an Examining Center of the Instituto Cervantes, every year the URV organizes three sessions of the examinations leading to the Diplomas in Spanish as a Foreign Languages (DELE) for each of the three levels outlined in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The CEH also organizes Spanish courses to prepare students for each level of these examinations.
